Chá da Tarde –
Afternoon Tea
The Afternoon Tea originated amongst the wealthy social
classes in England in the 1840. It seems it was Anna Maria, Duchess of Bedford,
who invented this afternoon meal.
However, it was Catherine of Braganza (born in
Portugal, 1638-1705), Queen Consort, married to Charles II, who is credited
with the introduction of tea drinking in the UK.
