It reminds that I had the best croissants not in Paris (France being the land of origin) but in Sofia ( Bulgaria). Moreover, they were not bought in a coffee shop, but at the supermarket's bakery.
Actually, Vienna is known as the birthplace of croissants. They are called kipferl. In the 1800s a French pastry chef started making them flakier. The Parisians loved them and started calling them croissants due to their shape. Mine were bought at an Italian bakery today. : )
