Lamentavelmente, por razões fora do meu controlo, não pude assistir ao grande espetáculo, incluindo a Luta Livre Sumo, que tanto gostaria de ter visto ao vivo.

I liked the title. So, I requested the ebook from the library. As far as I remember I had never heard of this author.

He was raised in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and was formerly Professor of Medical Law at the University of Edinburgh. He became an expert on medical law and bioethics and served on related British and international committees. He has since become known as a fiction writer, with sales in English exceeding 40 million. His books have been translated into 46 languages.

And what series is he best known for?  That will be your research if you are interested. : )

I am not going to talk about my new hairstyle and that, according to some friends, I look fabulous. Who really cares?!

No point in talking about the weather. Yesterday, 26º C and today, 19º C.

Or that Britney Spears’ husband is filing for divorce. It’s unbelievable how this young woman has been exploited all her life. By her parents, her lawyers, and by her husbands.

Or that I am spending more time in the kitchen.

All of this is inconsequential, irrelevant.

Hoje também não há postagem. Não tenho ideia nenhuma do que possa publicar.

Não vos vou falar sobre o meu novo penteado que, segundo algumas amigas, me fica muitíssimo bem. “Fabulosa” foi o adjetivo usado. Quem é que se vai interessar?

Não vale a pena falar sobre o tempo. Ontem estivemos a 26 graus e hoje a 19.

Ou que o marido de Britney Spears pediu o divórcio. Inacreditável como esta mulher tem sido explorada, a sua vida inteira, pelos pais, pelos advogados e pelos maridos.

Ou que estou a passar mais tempo na cozinha.

Tudo isto é inconsequente, irrelevante.

Preencher formulários é um pouco mais moroso hoje em dia.

Há a parte onde indicamos que pronomes deverão ser usados quando se referem a nós, independentemente da nossa aparência: ele/dele (preposição+pronome), ela/dela, e os pronomes neutros, elu(s), ile(s), para os que não se identificam como homem ou mulher. Estes últimos não sei se já fazem parte, oficialmente, da língua portuguesa. Vi frases exemplo para substituir “Ele é bonito/Ela é bonita”, assim: “Elu/Ile é bonite”. Sou toda a favor da evolução da língua, mas tenho os meus limites. : )

Depois temos a parte, com as caixas de verificação, onde indicamos a nossa identidade de género: transgénero, cisgénero, demigénero, sem-género, não-binário, genderqueer, homem, mulher, ou outra identidade de género não listada.

Complicado, mas devemos respeitar todos os géneros. Já não devemos assumir de que género é uma pessoa apenas pela sua aparência.

Para facilitar as coisas, de vez em quando acrescento (ela) a seguir à minha assinatura num email.

(Li com muita atenção o “Manual de Linguagem Inclusiva” do CES – Conselho Económico e Social – que foi aprovado em 2021.  Há tantas maneiras de evitar o masculino genérico!   Recomendo a leitura deste manual para quem, como eu, se interessa por linguística.) 

 

Filling out forms is taking longer nowadays.

We have to indicate the pronouns people should use when referring to us, and not make assumptions: she/her/hers – as females; he/him/his - as males; they/them/their, which are considered neutral, for someone who might not identify strictly as male or female.

No more assumptions as to what pronouns to use for someone according to the way they look in terms of gender.

Then we have to check the following boxes: transgender, cisgender, demigender, agender, nonbinary, genderqueer, man, woman, two-spirit, another gender identity not listed.

To make things easier, I sometimes include my gender pronoun on my email signature line…. (she/her).

Mãe e filho de 3 anos tiveram um date ontem. Foram a um jogo de baseball.

Quando perguntei se o nosso tesouro tinha sido “paciente” durante todo o jogo, a resposta foi: “Não, certamente que não. Assistimos a 3 innings, subornei-o para mais 3 e começámos a andar pelos corredores nos últimos 3. Às tantas tentou afastar-se de mim, dizendo: “Volto já. Vou comprar um hot dog.”

Soap dishes – Saboneteiras

Esta é uma saboneteira que tem estado fora de serviço há muito, muito tempo. Perdeu o seu encanto. Comprada no Canada, mas “made” em Portugal.

Pensei que este acessório de quarto de banho já fosse considerado obsoleto. Porém, se queremos ser uma comunidade de desperdício zero, usar sabonetes em barra faz muito mais sentido. Alguns sabonetes em barra podem ser feitos com ingredientes ecológicos e biodegradáveis.

Se optarmos por esse caminho, melhor será atualizar as nossas saboneteiras. Modernas e práticas e com bom escoamento de água.

This is my hand painted soap dish that’s been out of commission for a long, long time. It had lost its allure. Bought in Canada, but made in Portugal.

A bathroom accessory that I thought was obsolete. However, if we are becoming a zero-waste community, using bar soaps makes a lot more sense. Some bar soaps are made with eco-friendly and biodegradable ingredients.

If we are going that route, we might as well update our soap dishes, so we don’t have soggy soaps.
