Canada to be the European Union’s first ever “associate member”?

Opinions:

Roberta Metsola, European Parliament President: “The world is changing.  Side by side, we can build what comes next; Canada and the EU are ‘allies and friends.’  

Damian Boeselager, German MEP: “You have green hydrogen to keep us warm; you have maple syrup to keep us happy and Heated Rivalry to keep us entertained. You have poutine, the Mounties, Celine Dion, and Leonard Cohen, and of course, almost every famous Ryan or Justin I can think of."

I will give my opinion once the rules and benefits for Canada are defined.  If the regulations do not limit the country’s independence, that will be a point in its favour.

Darei a minha opinião quando as regras e os benefícios para o Canadá estiverem definidos. Se os regulamentos não limitarem a independência do país, será um ponto a favor.

Do you remember the project I mentioned in the last post about painting some of the trees I photographed in the park?  Well, after two attempts (or was it three?), and many hours, I managed to finish the landscape.  Then I remembered this proverb, “To bite off more than one can chew.”  It totally applies…

As you can see, I took some creative liberties. : )

 

Lembram-se do projeto que mencionei no último post sobre pintar algumas das árvores que tinha fotografado no parque? Depois de duas tentativas (ou foram três?) e muitas horas, consegui terminar esta paisagem.  Entretanto, lembrei-me deste provérbio moçambicano que li num dos livros de Mia Couto: “Ela está a fazer-se maior que o seu tamanho.” Ou seja, "dar um passo maior que a perna". Aplica-se totalmente...

Como podem ver, tomei certas liberdades criativas. : )

 

O parque onde fui fazer uma caminhada esta tarde tem árvores espetaculares. Como estou obcecada em pintá-las, fotografei várias espécies para as reproduzir na tela.  

The park where I walked this afternoon has spectacular trees.  Since I’m currently obsessed with painting them, I photographed several varieties to replicate on canvas.

Elite Athletes and Their Bad Behaviour

Elite athletes who display unsportsmanlike behaviour disrespect their sport and set a poor example for young people. A recent example is Aryna Sabalenka, one of the best tennis players in the world, smashed two rackets after losing the US Open final. Because elite athletes have a massive public platform and significant societal influence, they have the responsibility to model core virtues like integrity, accountability, and emotional regulation, instead of displaying their anger so freely.

I am very disappointed with Aryna Sabalenka.

 

Atletas de Elite e o Seu Mau Comportamento

Os atletas de elite que demonstram comportamentos antidesportivos desrespeitam o desporto e dão um mau exemplo aos mais jovens. Um exemplo recente é o de Aryna Sabalenka, uma das melhores tenistas do mundo, que partiu duas raquetes depois de ter perdido na final do US Open. Uma vez que os atletas de elite têm uma enorme visibilidade pública e uma influência social significativa, têm a responsabilidade de modelar virtudes importantes como a integridade, a responsabilidade e o controlo emocional, em vez de demonstrarem a sua ira tão livremente.

Estou muito desiludida com Aryna Sabalenka.

 

Quando uma Árvore se Torna Abstrata

Esta é a minha primeira pintura abstrata. Mas antes de continuar, é preciso compreender que requer muita coragem para mostrar as minhas competências artísticas em pintura (ou a falta delas) para o mundo inteiro ver.  Sou uma mulher corajosa, plenamente consciente das minhas limitações, mas, ao mesmo tempo,  confiante em mim mesma. : )

Dito isto, deixem-me contar-vos como tudo aconteceu. Esta "obra" começou por ser mais uma árvore de outono, com um tronco mais grosso e folhagem abundante. No entanto, não correu como eu pretendia. Pintei tantas folhas que, a certa altura, o tronco quase desapareceu. O céu parecia estranho, tal como a relva. Assim, decidi usar uma esponja e misturar todas as cores na tela. Pensei que este seria um ótimo fundo para uma obra abstrata… E aqui está ela!

When a Tree Becomes an Abstract

This is my first abstract painting. But before I continue, you must realize it takes a lot of courage to show my painting skills (or lack thereof) for the entire world to see. You see, I am a courageous woman, totally conscious of her own shortcomings, but confident of herself at the same time. : )

Having said that, let me tell you how it happened.  This work started as another fall tree, with a thicker trunk and large foliage. However, it didn’t work out as I intended. I painted so many leaves that, at one point, the trunk almost disappeared. The sky looked off and so did the grass. So, I decided to use a sponge and blend all the colours on the canvas. Then I thought this would make a great background for an abstract piece… And here it is!

 

 

Red Coneflower – Equinácea-vermelha

I had to stop and admire these red echinacea flowers.  Sometimes beauty catches you by surprise and leaves you completely in awe.

Tive de parar para admirar estas equináceas vermelhas.  Às vezes a beleza apanha-nos de surpresa e deixa-nos completamente maravilhadas(os).
