Minestrone Soup – Sopa Minestrone

A palavra minestrone significa “sopa espessa de hortaliças”.

Algumas das primeiras origens da sopa minestrone são anteriores à expansão das tribos latinas de Roma no que se tornou o Império Romano, quando a dieta local era “vegetariana por necesssidade” e consistia essencialmente de hortaliças.

Os antigos romanos reconheciam os benefícios para a saúde de sopas de hortaliças simples e espessas, e as hortaliças continuaram sendo um alimento básico.

A tradição de não perder as raízes rurais continua até hoje, e a minestrone é conhecida na Itália como pertencente ao estilo de cozinha denominado “cucina povera” (literalmente “cozinha pobre”), ou seja, pratos de raízes rústicas e rurais, em oposição a “cucina nobile”, ou o estilo de culinária da aristocracia e dos nobres.
